Salmon fishing in Port Hardy starts mid May and continues until the end of September:

Fishing Charter Schedule

• Early June has good catches of Chinook salmon in the 10 - 45 lb. range.
• Late June to early July the Coho salmon arrive in large numbers as well as some nice Chinook salmon. Coho salmon 6 - 10 lbs. Chinook salmon 10 - 45 lbs.
• Mid-July to early August there is good salmon fishing for the larger Coho salmon in the 8 - 12 lb. range and Chinook salmon in the 10 - 45 lb. range.
• August is excellent salmon fishing for larger Chinook salmon , Coho salmon and Pink salmon as well as the occasional Sockeye salmon and Chum salmon . Coho salmon to 20+ lbs. Chinook salmon to 60 lbs.
• September marks the exciting run of the Northern Coho salmon, to 20+ lbs. as well as Chinook salmon and Pink salmon.

Note: Chinook Salmon are also known as King, Spring, or Blackmouth Salmon. The larger than 30 lb. salmon are referred to as "Tyee". The scrappy Coho salmon are also known as Silver Salmon.
